Seana Bhràigh 

Seana Bhràigh is lovely remote views with very scenic views on the route and from the summit. This is a long 16-mile route which takes over nine hours to complete in good conditions. 

There is a relatively flat forestry track leading to the summit. This can be cycled to cut off 5 kilometres of the journey. 

Seana Bhràigh is one of the inaccessible Scottish hills, along with A’Mhaighdean, north of Kinlochewe. There are lovely views of Loch Luchd Coire and Loch a’Choire Mhoir. 

Beinn Dearg Loop

Beinn Dearg is the highest summit in the northern Highlands. There are breathtaking views from the summit across the southeast of Ullapool. 

The second summit is called Cona Mheall. This peak is located on the opposite side of the impressive rocky Coire Ghranda. 

Meall nan Ceapraichean and Eididh nan Clach Geala are the other two summits in the Beinn Dearg Loop. There are magnificent views at all parts of the walk.

Beinn Dearg is a designated Special Protection area. The area encompasses a diverse range of habitats and wildlife including golden eagles. 

The route is almost 17 miles long and takes at least nine hours to complete. Also, the route takes you up the stunning Glen Squaib and along a stunning ridge. 

Up the eastern flank of Beinn Dearg, there is a fantastic piece of engineering. This is known as the “famine wall” which is two metres tall in some parts.

Sgùrr Nan Clach Geala 

This group of three Munros is named after the highest summit on the ridge – Sgùrr Nan Clach Geala. Sgùrr Nan Clach Geala is a fine summit and walks across the Fannichs. There are ten Munros in the Fannichs. 

Sgùrr Nan Clach Geala translates from Scottish Gaelic as ‘Peak of the White Stone’. This name refers to an area of light-coloured quartzite rocks near the summit. Sgùrr Nan Clach Geala is a wonderful summit.

This is an excellent ridge walk with views of the eastern corrie. The route is over 11 miles long and takes eight hours to complete in good conditions. 

Sgùrr Mòr and the eastern Fannichs

This route involves four peaks and is 15 miles long and takes 10 hours to complete. Sgùrr Mòr (Fannich) is the highest of the Fannich Munros. Also, Sgùrr Mòr is the 12th highest peak on the British Isles.

The Fannichs form a long length of peaks in the elevated ground north of Loch Fannich and south of Loch Glascarnoch. Hydro schemes and wind farms decorate the wilderness. 

Am Faochagach 

Am Faochagach is located north of Loch Glascarnoch. This is one of the shorter routes from Ullapool. Overall, the route is nine miles long and takes between five and six hours to complete. 

This is an interesting Munros with great views over the surrounding countryside. It is a fairly easy climb remember to take care of the river crossing. There is moorland and bog surrounding the heather-covered summit.

Ben More Assynt & Conival

Assynt is a gorgeous area with many mountains of varying heights and sizes. However, only two, Ben More Assynt and Conival are high enough to reach Munro’s status. 

Ben More Assynt is Scottish Gaelic for ‘Big Mountain of Assynt’. This is the highest point in Sutherland, standing at 998 metres.

The two rocky mountains are connected by a fine riddle. This is a rewarding day out with great views across the Assynt peaks. 

The route is almost 11 miles long and takes 9 hours to complete. This is an iconic route which will be a memorable day out for Munro baggers.

An Teallach 

Bidein a’Ghlas Thuill is the highest summit of An Teallach, and arguably has one of the best viewpoints in the country. The two Munros are on a ridge on a 12.5-miles route. Together it takes approximately nine hours to complete.

Ben Wyvis 

Ben Wyvis is a vast and sprawling mountain located in Ben Wyvis National Nature Reserve. The route is almost nine miles long and takes between four and five hours to complete. 

Ben Wyvis is also one of the most popular Munros to climb for folk in Inverness. There is a well-constructed path up the slopes of An Cabar. 

Fionn Bheinn 

Fionn Bheinn is in a quite isolated position south of Loch Fannich. The route is 7.5 miles long and takes between five and six hours to complete. 

On a clear day, there are fantastic views of Torridon and the Letterewe Forest. Also, there are great views of some of Scotland’s best Munros. 

At the beginning of the walk from the Achnasheen car park, there is a path you can use to follow for the hydroelectric schemes. After the first initial climb, the ground becomes boggier and there is no path to the summit. 

Fisherfield 6, from Shenavall

This is an epic opportunity to bag five Munros and one Corbett in one day. The remote Munros are located in the Great Wilderness, the Fisherfield Forest. There are some dramatic peaks and ridges in the region. 

The Munros above can be completed as one big circuit along with one Corbett and Shenavall bothy. This is one of the longest routes on the list, at eighteen miles long, this route takes at least 12 hours to complete. 

Slioch 

From the summit, there are views of Loch Maree. This route begins near the shores of Loch Maree. Overall, it is almost 12 miles long and takes at least eight miles to complete.

There are good paths present, which showcase some lovely waterfalls and lochans. There are wonderful views across Fisherfields. Some navigation skills are required for this route. 

Ben Klibreck

Ben Kilbreck is a huge isolated mountain that is the centre of the vacant moorland in Sutherland. The route is almost a nine-mile sling and takes between five and seven hours.

There are numerous ways to climb Ben Klibreck. The Munro can be tackled from the Crask in the south or Altnaharra to the north.

Sgurr Mhor (Beinn Alligin)

Beinn Alligin translates from Scottish Gaelic to Mountain of Beauty or Jewelled Mountain. Of the three Torridon Ridge traverses, there are spectacular views and stunning terrain. 

The Torridon area was once owned by the National Trust For Scotland. Therefore, a network of paths may be still present and in alright condition. 

The Traverse of Horns is part of the route and this involves straightforward summer scrambling. The route is just over six miles long and takes seven hours to complete.

Ben Hope

Ben Hope is the most northerly Munro in Scotland. It is an isolated peak which rises high above the moorland. 

At the lowers slopes it can be boggy and steep. However, the higher you climb the route becomes gentler and grass-covered slopes lead to the summit.

The ascent is short but steep and takes five hours to complete the whole route. The route is just under five miles long and is one of the shortest Munro routes near Ullapool.
