Are you planning a trip to the North Coast 500 and are looking for some accommodation on route? Glamping Pods are an excellent accommodation option for those who want to connect to the outdoors but still have their home comforts. 

A selection of pods are listed below, some are more extravagant than others, equipped with the latest technology, or with access to a spa or hot tub. Also, some pods welcome service dogs or have facilities for those with limited mobility.

Some pods have great access to local towns and villages on the North Coast 500. Other options are more isolated and you will be surrounded by amazing views of the coast or mountainous landscapes.

The North Coast 500 is one of the most iconic coastal touring routes in Europe. The route has excellent scenic landscapes, mystical castles, waterfalls, cliffs and hidden beaches.

North Coast 500 Pods, Achmelvich

The North Coast 500 Pods are located 500 metres away from the most incredible Achmelvich Bay. Each pod comes with an outdoor seating terrace, barbeque facilities, voice-activated Alexa lighting and Wi-Fi. 

There are four pods all named after a nearby mountain, which sleeps between two and four people. Also, some are pet-friendly. The pods are well-kitted out, with a kitchenette and a TV with Netflix.

The North Coast 500 Pods are located on the west coast and many attractions are a short drive away.

Some of my favourite nearby attractions include Clashnessie Falls, Kylesku Bridge, Allt Chranaidh Waterfall, Ardvreck Castle, Bone Caves and Achnahaird Beach. 

Culkein Pods, Lochinver

Culkein Pods are spacious and well-equipped, everything that you need is here. The interior is beautifully kitted out, including gorgeous pottery, soft furnishings and a dishwasher.

The kitchen is fully stocked, and there is a walk-in shower, hairdryer and double bed. Outside there is an outdoor fireplace and a patio where you can relax and soak in the views. 

The Pod is located in a secluded area with amazing views across Culkein Bay. There are only a few other houses and rarely any people to be seen. 

This is a great place to base yourself for exploring the North West Highlands. Clashnessie Falls, Kylesku Bridge, Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve and the ruins of Ardvreck Castle are all not too far away. 

Tighlochan Pods, Scourie

The pods at Tighlochan are very well equipped with kitchen facilities, a double bed, a sofa and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. Also, the interiors are small and cosy and there is a great decking area where you can go outside to relax.

Some of the North Coast 500 attractions that are near the pods are Ardvreck Castle, Badcall Bay, Kylesku Bridge, Wailing Willow Falls and Lewisian Gneiss Rocks. There are plenty of options to go hiking in the area or you can simply relax at one of the bays. 

You will feel completely secluded. However, a shop, petrol station and launderette are nearby. 

Handa Pod, Scourie

Handa Pods are self-catering outdoor Glamping Pods overlooking Loch Dubh near the entrance to Handa Ferry. The pod is in a super location for exploring Handa Island and the local area. 

The decor inside has a luxurious feel and there is decking outside where you can relax and enjoy the panoramic views. The pod has one double bed, a kitchenette with a microwave and a toaster, a flat-screen TV and a setting area.

Strathy Bay Pods, Strathy

Strathy Bay Pods are located between Durness and Thurso along the north coast of Scotland. This is an extremely unique stay and you will not find another pod along the north coast with the great views that you get here across the beach cove at Strathy Bay.

The pods are very clean and cosy and everything you need is provided. The interior is mostly white decor and has many fine modern finishes.

There is an outdoor fireplace in the shard campground. Each pod can sleep up to four people so it is perfect for a family getaway. Strathy Bay Pods are a half an hour drive away from Thurso where there is plenty of shops and restaurants.  

Strathy Bay is a very isolated part of the North Coast 500, there are many hidden bays and craggy cliffs to explore along the coast.

Achmeney Glamping Pod, Halkirk

Located inland, between Thurso and Wick, this pod is an excellent place to explore the northeast coast. On arrival, there are some refreshments waiting for you. 

The hot tub is a great addition, especially after a long day of exploring. Also, you can relax outside, enjoy a sunrise or sunset and view the local farm animals (Highland Coos). 

The pods are slightly larger than average Glamping Pods. The bedroom is in a separate room from the main living/ kitchen area. 

The pod is a great distance away from John O’Groats and Castle Gardens of Mey. The host is excellent for recommending things to do in the area. 

There are plenty of attractions along the North Coast 500 along this part of the coast. 

Hillside Camping Pods and Shepherds Huts

Hillside Camping Pods are located near Wick in the Highlands region. Also, John O’Groats is only 7 miles way

The accommodation comes with a TV, a private bathroom with shower and a hair dryer. Meanwhile, in the kitchenette, there is a microwave, a toaster and a fridge.

The Glamping Pods are very well equipped with nice touches. The outside area is peaceful and quiet and surrounded by amazing scenery.

The Hillside Camping Pods are an excellent place to base yourself for exploring the northeast corner of the North Coast 500. This accommodation is not too far from Keiss Castle, Sinclairs Bay and Castle Sinclair Girnigoe.

Camster Pods, Lybster

Camster Pods are located in Caithness and are perfect for exploring the northeast Highlands. There are three self-catering pods on offer which sleep between 3-7 people and come with an outdoor hot tub. 

The pods have underfloor heating, double-glazed windows, a bathroom and a kitchen area. Also, there is a TV and DVD player. 

The pods are located in a quiet rural setting allowing for a relaxing and secluded stay. The village of Lybster is only three miles away. You can get all your local amenities or head to the bigger settlement of Wick which is 12 miles away. 

The Camster Pods are a great place to base yourself for exploring. Camster Cairns and the Whaligoe Steps are in driving distance from the Camster Pods.

North Star Glamping

North Star Glamping is located on the outskirts of the small village of Lybster. From the site, you can admire stunning views across the mountains, sea and the Moray Coast.

The interiors are homey, modern and bright. The cabin is clean and comfy and is equipped with everything you need. 

Also, there is a coffee machine, microwave, toaster, flat-screen TV, and one bathroom with a walk-in shower. Moreover, outside there is a patio with an outdoor fireplace and guests can enjoy a barbeque. 

These cabins are a great place to base yourself for exploring the northeast of the North Coast 500. Whaligoe Steps and the rugged eastern coastline is not far from North Star Pods.

North Coast 500 Pods, Brora

The North Coast 500 Pods is located in the charming village of Brora. Brora is located in Sutherland on the stunning east coast of Scotland, this is the sister site to Achmelvich. 

The are four pods available at the Brora NC500 site. The handmade timber pods feature modern technology with voice-controlled lighting, Bluetooth sound systems, Amazon Alexa, Wi-Fi and SMART TVs. 

Moreover, there are USB plug sockets, underfloor healing, a fully equipped kitchenette, an en-suite, a double bed and a fold-out sofa bed. 

After a day of exploring you can relax in the ‘wild’ sauna, where you can relax and admire the excellent views towards the coast. For those who have just tied the knot, you can stay in the extravagant Honeymoon Suite. 

This luxury Glamping site is located near many historic landmarks dating back to Jacobite settlements, clan strongholds and the Highland Clearances. In addition, there are many hill walks, hiking trails and fishing spots in the area. 

You can visit the nearby golf course, and explore the trails in the magnificent mountains. Or visit nearby attractions including Dunrobin Castle, Clynelish Distillery, Golspie Burn Waterfall and Brora Beach.

Brora is only a few kilometres away and there is a grocery store and a selection of shops, bars and restaurants. North Coast 500 Pods are an excellent place to base yourself for exploring the North Coast 500. 

Loch Shin Glamping Pods, Lairg

Loch Shin Glamping Pods are located near the small village of Lairg in the centre of the North Coast 500 route. The pods are close to both Dornoch and Golspie and you can tick off many attractions along the east coast of Scotland. 

The pods are very clean and nicely decorated, it is amazing how nice and cosy you feel when it is blowing a gale outside. The hosts are lovely and will even show you around their farm animals, the Highlands Coos, alpacas, chickens and sheep. 

Breakfast is available on-site. Also, there is a fire pit outside the pod where the owners can supply you with some firewood.

If you are Glamping in the autumn or winter months this is the perfect opportunity to see the Northern Lights. The Falls of Shin and Forest Walks are only a twenty-minute drive from the Glamping ground.

Evelix Pods Dornoch

There are six different pods available, featuring free Wi-Fi, ensuite shower rooms, a fully equipped kitchenette and are fully heated.

There are accommodation options for those who have mobility restrictions and also service dogs can be accommodated. 

The Pod is clean and spacious with a good well-equipped kitchenette. Inside, the furnishings are modern and you are kept warm but the weather is doom and gloom. 

This is a great place to base yourself for travelling and sightseeing. The pods are close to the little town of Dornoch which has local amenities. 

Dornoch is the gateway to the Northern Highlands, you can visit beaches, spot dolphins, explore ruined castles enjoy a short hike up one of the mountains or wander through Golspie Glen. 

Delny Glamping, Invergordon

Start or finish your North Coast 500 trip in style. Inverness is a 40-minute drive away and the nearest settlement is Invergordon which is five minutes away.

The pods are located on the picturesque site of Delny House which dates back to the 16th century. From the site, you can admire the spectacular views across the Cromarty Firth. 

There are ‘whisky barrel’ pods that host up to two guests. These pods feature a king-size bed, en-suite bathroom, outdoor seating and complimentary tea and coffee.  You can feed the goats, pigs, ducks and chickens.

The accommodation has an outdoor fireplace, a children’s playground and a garden area where guests can relax in.
