Log Cabins are a perfect getaway to enjoy nature and the surrounding Scottish landscapes. This post explores the best log cabins and chalets in Scotland to stay in.

Scotland is home to hundreds of forests, woodland, lochs and landscape spots. As you can imagine, there are many wonderful places for the perfect chalet or lodge holiday. 

There is a variety of log cabins to choose from, many in different locations. You can relax by the cliffs near a beach, be deep in the forest of the Highlands or by a stunning loch in a National Park. 

This post will list different areas of Scotland where you will find cosy log cabins that you can stay in. Some are suitable for couple while others are perfect for families.

The price range varies and a selection of log cabins and chalets are listed depending on your budget for each area. 

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs is one of the two National parks in Scotland. There are plenty of picturesque lochs, dozens of mountains and many glorious walks. 

The green lush landscape is one of the most picturesque landscapes to enjoy a week’s break or vacation. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs is not far from Glasgow, Stirling and Perthshire.

There are many small villages in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park with tourist information and local amenities.

Lochend Chalets, Port of Menteith

Lochend Chalets are located in Lake Menteith, there are lovely views across Ben Lomond and across Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The lake is beautiful, with shallow water near the beach and the chance to see ospreys. 

There is a variety of accommodation options including chalets, lodges and cottages on the 38-acre estate. Each option comes with a fully equipped kitchen, a private bathroom and a spacious dining and living area.

Hillside Log Cabin, Strathrye

Hillside Log Cabin is located in central Scotland in the region of Strathyre. The lodge is spacious and has free Wi-Fi, BBQ facilities, a garden and a satellite flat-screen TV. 

There is a lovely equipped kitchen and an outdoor terrace with a great seating area and fabulous views of the surrounding mountains. There is something extra special about chilling with a log burner. 

This red wooden log cabin has two bedrooms, can sleep four people and is pet friendly. The accommodation is very clean, comfortable, simple and stylish, this is a great place for an extra special weekend. 

The location is great, and the surrounding area is quiet with easy access to woodland walks and bike trails. Located in the heart of the Trossachs in the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, many attractions are nearby. 

Hillside Log Cabin is not far from the settlements of Callendar and Killin. In addition, Loch Lubnaig, Callander Crags, Glen Ogle, Ben Ledi, Bracklinn Falls and Falls of Dochart are all nature attractions that are not far. 

For keen mountain baggers, the Crianlarich Munros, Lawers Range and Ben Vorlich are all within driving distance.

Acharn Lodges, Killin

Maple is a large log cabin located in Killin in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The accommodation sleeps 4 people in two bedrooms. 

The home offers a TV, washing machine, and a fully equipped kitchen. The interior features a grey wooden look and outside there is a good walk just outside the garden.

Killin is a great place to base yourself to explore Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and Perthshire. Killin is not a far drive from other towns and villages including Kenmore, Aberfeldy, St Fillians, Lochearnhead and Crianlarich.

A few popular attractions nearby as the Falls of Dochart, The Scottish Crannog Centre and Castle Menzies. Killin is surrounded by a stunning mountainous landscape, nearby Munros include the Lawers Range, Crianlarich Munros, Ben Vorlich and the Glen Lyon Munros. 

Perthshire

Perthshire is a country in central Scotland, the area is also known as Perth and Kinross. The city of Perth is the administrative centre of Perthshire. 

There are plenty of lovely towns and villages to visit in Perthshire, my favourites are Pitlochry, Dunkeld, Crieff, Aberfeldy and Kenmore. 

Perth is known for lush green landscapes, gorgeous forest walks and many small hills in the area. The area is not far from the main cities and airports and is a perfect relaxing place to go for a break or vacation. 

Logierait Pine Lodges, Pitlochry

Logierait Pine Lodges are located next to the River Tay, not far from the A9 near Pitlochry. Each lodge has a living area, open plan dining area, fitted kitchen and private balcony. 

There is a wide range of lodges which sleeps from 2 to 8 people. The lodges are in a gorgeous location, where visitors can enjoy gorgeous walks along the River Tay.

Pitlochry and Dunkled are the two closest towns where visitors can go and enjoy one of the cafes or restaurants and grab a bite to eat. Visitors can enjoy walks around the Hermitage, to Pinecone Viewpoint where there are lovely views across Tay Forest Park and Faskally Forest. 

Other attractions that are award-winning and great to do in the area are Blair Castle, Falls of Bruar, Pitlochry Dam and Visitor Centre and Scone Palace.

Shanthi Lodge, Dunning

Shanthi Lodge is a beautiful log cabin that has been decorated to a modern standard. The Shanthi Lodge comes with a lovely outdoor patio area and great views over a small lake. 

Dunning is a small village located between Perth and Stirling. The village has two small pubs and a store. 

Dunning is a great location to explore central Scotland. Perth, Dundee, Pitlochry, St Andrews, Edinburgh, Falkirk and Glasgow are within an hour’s drive (or near enough) or less from Dunning. 

Some attractions that are closer are Dollar Glen, Loch Leven and Dunfermline Abbey. Also, Dunning is a short drive away from Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, the Fife Coastal Path and is on the Heart 200 route around Perthshire.  

Dumfries and Galloway

Dumfries and Galloway is a county located in the south-west of Scotland. This is a beautiful area in Scotland which has a lovely coastline of rocky shoreline, sandy beaches and acres of forest and green spaces. 

There are many notable towns and villages in Dumfries and Galloway. Wanlockhead is the highest village in Scotland, Kirkcudbright is Scotland’s artist town and Wigtown is known as Scotland’s National Book Town. 

South Port O’Spittal Farm, Portpatrick, Stranraer

South Port O’Spittal Farm features a fabulous lodge in a stunning location and is in a quiet secluded area. There are excellent garden views across the Irish Sea. 

The interiors feel homey and modern. Also, there are barbeque facilities, Wi-Fi, three bedrooms and a flat-screen TV. On the terrace, there is a seating area and a fireplace. 

South Port O’Spittal Farm is close to Portpatrick and is a short walk down to the Port of Spittal Bay. The accommodation is not far from the Mull of Galloway, the most southern part of Scotland. 

Moreover, Castle Kennedy, Stranraer and Logan Botanical Gardens are not too far away. Ayrshire is not too far away where you can visit Culzean Castle and Robert Burn’s home in Alloway. The nearest airport is Glasgow Prestwick. 

Ewes Water Log Cabins, Langholm

The chalet sleeps 2 people, there is one bedroom, a living room and a bathroom and a bath. The location is remote and is peaceful and quiet with wooden features in and out. 

As the cabin is located on the farm, the lodge is surrounded by wildlife and farm animals. Luxury Cabin in Galloway Forest Park is located in the south of Galloway Forest Park near Newton Stewart.

Newton Stewart is only 15 minutes drive away, and Dumfries is almost an hour away. Visitors can enjoy many parks in the area, or drive a part of the South West Coastal 300. 

Ayrshire

Ayrshire is an area on the west coast of Scotland, south of Glasgow and north of Dumfries and Galloway. Ayrshire is a beautiful county split into three areas, South, East and North Ayrshire. 

There is a wide variety of country towns and villages, stunning coastal, regional parks, and historical landmarks. 

Cosy Wood Cabin, Cumnock, Ayrshire

This cosy cabin is located in Cumnock, in the Ayrshire region. The area is very quiet and tranquil and filled with wildlife.

The Baird Institute History Centre & Museum, Sorn Castle, Galloway Forest Park and Dumfries House are all nearby attractions. 

Islands

The Islands of Scotland are so beautiful and remote and will make an excellent weekend stay. The main islands are Orkney, Shetland, Small Isles and the Isle of Arran.

Fife is a county located between Edinburgh and Angus. There are so many hidden gems in the Kingdom of Fife. 

There are many great historical attractions in Fife, head to the ancient towns of Dunfermline and St Andrews. Also, Fife is a great place to enjoy the outdoors, there are plenty of beaches dotted along the coastline and the Lomond Hills Regional Park is located in central Fife.  

The Dookit, Markinch

The Dookit is a highly cosy cabin, which is very immaculate and clean. Guests can enjoy the view of the garden, and nearby hiking trails or relax and watch something on a flat-screen TV. 

There is lovely panelling through the accommodation and flowers beds are a lovely touch outside the lodge.

Markinch is a lovely village with some nice cafes and interesting historic parts. Also, Markinch is a great place to base yourself to drive to Falkland, Dundee, Lomond Hills Regional Park, St Andrews, Dunfermline, the East Neuk of Fife and the Forth Rail Bridge.

Aithnerthie Lodge, Leven

Aithnerthie Lodge is a great place to enjoy the outdoors, as there is an outdoor fireplace, garden and BBQ facilities, a patio and a picnic area. Indoor, the cabin features a fully equipped kitchen, a flat-screen TV, two bedrooms and a dining area.

The interior has a classic wooden interior, is decorated nicely and has lots of nice furniture. 

Aithnerthie Lodge is located near Leven, so guests can enjoy many activities in this area. Leven is near the coast so you can head to one of the beaches. 

Also, Leven is within driving distance from St Andrews, East Neuk of Fife and many golf courses. In addition, guests can drive or join tours to go further afield to one of the Scotland cities or Perthshire. 

Rustic Cabins, St Andrews

The cabin is well-equipped, modern and cosy. There are stunning sea views, the location is superb as you are close enough to St Andrew’s and far enough away to feel remote and rural. 

Rustic Cabins is not far from St Andrews East Sand Beach. Pets are allowed on request and there are plenty of walking routes in the area.

Angus & Aberdeenshire

Angus and Aberdeenshire are two counties that are located in the northeast of Scotland. Dundee is the main city in Angus, other main settlements are Forfar, Arbroath, Montrose, Brechin and Kirriemuir.

Angus is well known for the Angus Glens (Glen Clova and Glen Isla) and the Angus Coastal Path. There are many hill walks and nature trails including the Blue Door Walk and the Arbroath Cliff Walk. 

Rowanbank Cabin

Rowanbank Cabin is an exceptional place to escape to nature, the cabin is surrounded by trees and you can spot red squirrels in the garden. There is a lovely balcony area with outdoor seating.

Inside, the cabin is beautiful, and decorated to a high modern standard. There is one bedroom and the cabin can sleep up to three people.

Kirkton of Aucterhouse is located in Angus, it is not a far drive from Ski Resorts, the Cairngorms National Park, Dundee and the Angus Coastal Route. 

Braemar Lodge Cabins, Braemar

Braemar Log Cabins are located in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, surrounded by the many mountains and Munros. Braemar Lodge Cabins offer one-bedroom apartments and deluxe apartments that sleep up to 6 people.

The cabins are beautiful, well-equipped and central to shops. There is a gym on-site, and a nice communal grass area outside the properties.

Braemar is a great place to base yourself to bag a couple of Munros and enjoy Highland walks such as Linn of Dee and Linn of Quoich. Braemar Castle, Balmoral Castle and Glenshee Ski Centre are not far from the cabins. 

Highlands

The Highlands of Scotland is a vast remote area located mostly in the north western part of Scotland. There are magnificent mountainous landscapes, with wide lochs and exceptional wildlife. 

Inverness is the ‘capital of the Highlands’, there are many things to do in the Highlands including nature reserves, waterfalls, Munros and castles. 

Loch Broom Cabins, Leckmelm

Loch Broom Cabins are set in Leckmelm, south of Ullapool. This is a great place to stay on the North Coast 500 route. 

Each of the cabins has a modern interior with a kitchen, living room and a balcony. There are a range of chalets that sleep 2-4 people. 

One of the most memorable experiences during this stay was watching the sunset. The cabins are a lovely place to relax. 

Ullapool is the nearest settlement, there are ferries that come from Glasgow and the Western Islands of Scotland and arrive at the port in Ullapool. There are lovely choices of bars, restaurants and places to eat.

The Loch Broom Cabins is near plenty of highlights on the North Coast 500. The main attractions are Corrieshalloch Gorge, Knocken Cragg National Nature Reserve, Stac Pollaidh and Achmelvich Bay. 

Visitors who are enjoying the North Coast 500 route can stay on one of the famous Glamping pods.

Birdwatchers Cabin, Golspie

The Birdwatchers Cabin has a stunning wooden exterior, perched on a porch. Inside, the wooden interiors are continued. 

Guests can enjoy the wooden stove, barbeque facilities, a bedroom, and a living area with a sofa bed. The cabin sleeps up to 3 people. 

The cabin is not remote, however, it is very isolated and utterly quiet. This is a relaxing stay and all you can hear is the sounds of birds and see deer in the garden.

Birdwatchers Cabin is located in the Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve, north of the Dornoth Firth on the east coast of Scotland. This is a great place to base yourself for exploring a section of the North Coast 500.
